8 Things to Podcast About | Yogi’s Podcast Network

By Mike Mahony

A podcast can be an amazing thing to produce. It anyone, anywhere to communicate with people from around the world. But how do you decide what to podcast about? That’s what this article will help you decide. I present 8 things to podcast about. Browse through the Apple Podcasts directory and you will see how many topics people podcast about.

Discuss the News and/or Current Events

A podcast where you discuss your views on the news and current events can be very interesting to produce. It enables you to be as broad or narrow as you’d like. You could podcast about local news and politics, national news and politics or world news and politics. The breadth of your coverage is completely up to you. You won’t ever run out of good episode topics when you have a podcast about news and/or current events.

Showcase Your Hobbies and/or Special Interests

This is the most popular form of a podcast. Why not talk about your favorite television show or review your favorite films? Or podcast about your favorite sport, or maybe you have an interesting or unusual pastime. These are good because when you talk excitedly about your interests, your listeners will become excited too. You will likely stick with it longer if you are having fun doing it.

Give instructions

Some people who to listen to podcasts love to know how to make things or how things work. Keen gardener? Create a podcast about gardening. Are you a chef? Then make a podcast about how to cook certain recipes. An expert on Chinese art history? Podcast it. Workout podcasts are also very popular. Some universities are starting to produce podcasts as learning material for their students. This type of podcast can be extremely rewarding.

The Newest Social Media Network

By Mike Mahony

In the past couple of years, social media networks have taken a hit due to privacy concerns. What people didn’t grasp when they signed up for these “free” services is that they have to get paid for in some way and that’s why they collect as much of our data as they can–so they can sell it. Facebook, in particular, was hit with many privacy concerns. Enter MeWe.

Launched in 2016, MeWe is a private social network that wants to take on the likes of Facebook and Twitter. There are no ads — targeted or otherwise — and no tracking users of any kind, such as data mining.

MeWe has most of the standard features you would see on any other social media site. You can join groups, post pictures and comments to your home feed, and comment on other people’s posts. In addition, anyone can create a MeWe group and can opt to have it in their group directory as well.

When it comes to chat, again it’s pretty much the same as other chat apps. You can video call, voice call, send regular chats and secret chats. Secret chats are end-to-end encrypted, and although it’s an in-app subscription, you can try it free for 30 days.

That’s how MeWe plans to stay in business. Since it doesn’t sell access to its users to advertisers, there is a MeWe Store with emojis and the secret chat feature. Presumably more content will be added over time. Getting secret chat is a subscription costing US$0.99 per month or US$5.99 per year. Other than that the app is free.

MeWe is an interesting concept, but it reminds me of the early days of LinkedIn. There are not a lot of users and the features are still fairly immature. I believe it definitely has a decent future, but they must include more …read more

Why We Use Simplecast to Host Our Podcasts

By Mike Mahony

When we first started out in podcasting we followed the advice of someone we have since determined didn’t know what they were saying and we used a well-known podcast hosting company for our hosting needs. While this company did an amazing job, the pricing was based on storage space and wound up costing us over $120 a month for 5 shows. This quickly became cost prohibitive. It was at this point that we began looking for another host for our podcasts. Enter Simplecast!

While we had to sacrifice some of the ease of publication to social media, Simplecast met every single one of our needs. They are quickly expanding their functionality to include features we are currently missing at a cost less than half of what we paid with our other host. Their support is top-notch. They personally help you with any issue you have.

Transferring our RSS feeds to Simplecast was not only easy, but their support made sure we avoided any and all potential pitfalls. When I had questions they answered them immediately. They were able to iron out any issues that came up and they did so quickly.

The interface for adding an episode is extremely simple and is all on one screen. This makes my workflow much faster. Now I simply add the appropriate details and hit save and my episode is published when I ask for it to be published. In addition, they have a wonderful media player that can be embedded in any website. Have a look at one of our show pages to see the player in action.

With Simplecast you get unlimited episodes. You have up to date listener metrics. You can even give access to a manager who can help you with your episodes. This is all included for a very low monthly fee.
